Chapter 2: Rivals to the End
“Skar vs. Zephyr! Who will win?! Place your bids here!” a big-mouthed boy hollered over the crowd. Many people were placing bids over $50. A medium-sized boy w/ black hair and a huge, deep scar down his right eye stood near them. His name was Skar.
Soon enough, Thistle, Zephyr & Pyro all arrived out of the flood of trees. Skar looked up w/o any expression on his face what-so-ever. Everyone moved away as Zephyr & Pyro walked by. Especially Pyro.
“You showed up?” Skar asked. Zephyr only nodded. Pyro silently growled at Skar. Zephyr wrapped his arm over the dragon’s muzzle to quiet him.
“How can you touch that smelly dragon?” Skar asked rudely.
“Same way I can look at you,” Zephyr replied smartly. Skar’s fists’ clenched tightly by his side in rage. Thistle had to step in.
“Come on guys. Quit acting like a bunch of kids. Lets get this battle over w/, okay?” she asked.
Skar glanced at Zephyr then at Thistle. He turned & walked toward the battle area, grouching suare words under his breath. Zephyr did the same, except for the turning around part, of course.
“Let the battle begin..” Pyro mumbled sleepily.
“One more smart remark or threat from you & I’ll rip every scale off your back, you fire-breathing Iguana,” Thistle barked harshly. Pyro lifted one huge, scaly eye brow at her & replied, “Well, someone’s got an attitude today.” If looks could kill, Pyro would be dead in a ditch. Thistle’s stare was as cold as an iceberg. She wasn’t amused by Pyro’s words. She obviously had been annoyed or had just plain had a bad day.
Pyro looked at her a moment, “Uh..you okay Thist?” His worried expression made her feel better.
“I’m fine…it’s just…why do those two always have to go at it? It just makes me so angry, you know?” Pyro nodded his bulky head, his long, lanky, shagged scarlet mane flowing freely through the breeze.
Pyro, Thistle, Zephyr, Skar, & a crowd of people, left to the battle area. Zephyr & Skar calmly walked into the cleared out ring. Thistle stood w/ Pyro behind the crowd’s boundary. Ptro seemed to repel all the humans’ away. He looked around & grinned, “ you know, if I wasn’t so big & frightening you would think the reason these people stayed away was because I smelled strange or something.” She replied sarcastically, “ Why do you think I’m this far away from you, foul-breath?” He was kinda stunned by her come-back, but recovered as soon as the “referee” strated announcing rules.
“Ladies & Gentleman! Welcome to one of the greatest events you’ll ever see! Zephyr vs. Skar! Two great warriors in our fair village, well at least Skar is. Zephyr would be if he lived here like a normal human, instead of hanging around like some loner demon or dragon.” Zephry scowled at the referee, but the referee went on, “Anyway, the rules, in case you don’t know them, are: No fatal blows; death attacks; hitting below the belt to above the knee, or creating permanent damage done to the opponent. We don’t want a dead carcass, just a semi-friendly match. Also, no going outside of the ring. If you break any of the rules you are disqualified from the challenge! Ready! Fight!"
