if you are unable to write for an extended period of time please ask some one you think will be able to play your character, and if you are asked and agree please do post for them and try to play the character as closely as possible.

I don't really like having people play my characters, honestly. If anyone did, I'd be very cross I think.

I think this is a wonderful idea, if someone trusts another on this site to play their character for them. However, it should not be mandatory... There are a couple here whom I'd be happy to see play my character. But not everyone will be that comfy. Are there other possible solutions, to augment this one?

It is up to the players choice.

If you don't want someone to play your character, try to temporarily remove them from the storyline. (If you need help doing that, tell me so.)
Possible ways to do that:
-get fed up with the party, leave for a while. -KO/pass out (If you die, you can't come back. Not without a DAMNED good reason. So don't try it.) -anything else that is reasonable.
If you want anyone to play your characters, keep in mind that they may not play them exactly as you do. Try not to be critical. They are probably trying. If they are obviously not, someone else will try to play the character.
I am almost always available to temp characters. Adrienne seems to be pretty good about it too.
Just ask. Most people don't mind.
